Kelly House. Seated: Hannah Otis, Mary Pomeroy, Filena Hamilton. Sitting on the ground: Claude and Reuben Eldridge, Eva Phelps. This house was built in 1885-'86 by Mr. William Kelly and Mr. Stephen Leonard. It stood not far from the Stone Cottage, on the same terrace over looking the Niagara river. It was occupied during its first years by Mr. and Mrs. William Kelly, with their children, Don, Dwight and Viola and by Mr. and Mrs. Leonard and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis. The third floor was arranged for a school-room, and a school was organized with the following pupils. George Noyes, Pierpont Noyes, Holton Noyes, Humphrey Noyes, Gertrude Noyes, Johanna Lord, Don Kelly, Dwight Kelly, Viola Kelly, Agnes Hamilton and Louis Eldridge. The teachers were Mr. Herrick, Mr. Kelly, Mr. Yoder (a visiting believer from Kansas). Mrs. Skinner and Mr. Noyes. Among the subjects taught were Hebrew, Greek and short-hand. The entire New Testament was written from dictation in short-hand. Mr. Noyes died in the second story room with bay window.
