This mutual agreement made this twelfth day odf December A.D.1819 Between John Sargent Junior and the Stockbridge Tribe of Indians Witnesseth that the said Indians in order to substantiate their claims to the land at White River in the state of Indiana find it necessary to send a deputation to the General Government of the United States and for the assistance and services of said John Sargent Junior whom we appoint as our agent to further our wishes in the accomplishment of the design above mentioned, we do promise and agree to and with the said John Sargent Junior that whenever our nation shall treat with the gouvernment of the State of New York for the sale of our land at New Stockbridge will gie give him the said John Sargent Junior five hundred acres of land in said New Stockbridgewhich shall form one article any such treaty. and the said John Sargent Junior agrees to pay the same price for the same as shall be allowed us by the acre for such other land as we shall dispose of in said treaty. Proviso however and it is further agreed that in case the failure of the above mentioned design then and in such a case this shall forwith be null and void; In witness Whereof we have hereunto set our hands the day and year first above written.
