A great night time view of the business the motor court facilties generated in the Great Depression era. Most of the employees at Grande Vista were hired out. There were those colony (Dewhirst) members that refused to work there. Alcohol was a big business and the restaurant that styarted out vegetarian soon changed (by 1939) to the general public menu. The Motor court was part of a grandiose plan to buy adjoining properties and build another, much larger amusement park right on the main highway into SW Mich. from Chicago. The plans never materialized, perhaps from oppositions within the colony that felt that it threatened the colony park at Eden Springs. Chic Bell's fabulous success with the weekly Wednesday night amateur nights was a direct product in answer to or in opposition of the Dewhirst enterprise ideas of Grande Vista away from the successful colony properties park.
