with about 35 slave names.Edward Ellice, merchant and politician, was the son of Alexander Ellice, managing director of the Hudson's Bay Company and founder of the firm of Inglis Ellice and Co. in Montreal. Edward Ellice managed the firm's London branch and was later connected with the Canadian competitors of the Hudson's Bay Company, the North West Company and the X. Y. Company, bringing about an amalgamation of the three companies in 1821.
